About this Item
The 2019 vintage in the Swartland was shaped by continued drought and lean growing conditions, yet David and Nadia Sadie's extraordinary network of old vine parcels responded with wines of exceptional complexity and restrained power; David & Nadia's 2019 Aristargos earned 94 points from Tim Atkin MW and 93 points from Christian Eedes at Winemag.co.za.
Tim Atkin MW named David and Nadia Sadie his Young Winemakers of the Year in 2020, a joint accolade that perfectly reflects their partnership both in life and in the cellar.
Provenance
The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.
For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.
Critics Ratings
'I did a double take when I realised this was the tenth vintage of Aristargos - 2010 seems like yesterday - but what a great and reliable wine it has become. Chenin-based with 50% Cairette, Semillon, Roussanne, Viognier, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Verdelho, it's wonderfully complex and layered, with pear, citrus and herbal notes, a hint of peach and a long, stony finish.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 94/100
'47% Chenin Blanc, 13% Semillon, 11% Clairette Blanche, 10% Viognier, 8% Marsanne, 6% Roussanne, 3% Verdelho and 2% Grenache Blanc – seven varieties across 15 different vineyards involving 22 pickings. This vintage seems particularly reticent with the nose showing elusive notes of white and yellow fruit plus a little earthiness while the palate is lean, fresh and pithy. Quite challenging at this stage but should no doubt unwind with time in bottle. Alcohol: 13%.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 93/100 (Aug 2020)
