About the SessionA selection of South Africa’s finest wines, inspired by our rich wine heritage and the unique character of the Cape Winelands. These historic vineyards continue to produce wines of great diversity, elegance, and ageing potential. The Pinotage selection showcases leading producers, all of whom have become consistent flag bearers for this proudly South African variety.
About this Item
Both versions used to be called "Greengrape".
The 2019 vintage presented extreme challenges in the Citrusdal Mountain region, with ongoing drought conditions reducing yields dramatically, yet the small parcel of old Sémillon vines that constitute Kokerboom delivered fruit of exceptional intensity and focus. Sadie Family's 2019 Kokerboom earned 97 points from Tim Atkin MW. Kokerboom is produced from a unique parcel planted in the 1930s in the high-altitude Citrusdal Mountain ward, its blend of Sémillon Blanc and Sémillon Gris grown on deep decomposed granite and sandy soils surrounded by quiver trees at the furthest northern extreme of Eben Sadie's viticultural network. The wine is whole-bunch pressed, naturally fermented and aged entirely on the gross lees in old neutral casks.
