The Johnnie Walker Gold Label 18 Years Old was created in 1920 by Sir Alexander Walker, grandson of the founder, to commemorate the John Walker and Sons company's centenary. Drawing on blending notes left by Sir Alexander himself and now sadly discontinued, it is considered one of the finest blended Scotch whiskies ever produced: a masterful assembly of 15 carefully selected single malt and grain whiskies, every one of them aged for a minimum of 18 years, with Talisker from Skye providing the backbone and characteristic coastal character, Clynelish from the Northern Highlands adding a distinctive waxy, briny coastal quality, Royal Lochnagar delivering opulence and palate weight, and Cardhu from Speyside contributing the clean, elegant finish that has always defined the Johnnie Walker house style at its most refined. The Gold Label 18 Years Old was bottled at 40% ABV and, now replaced in the market by the Platinum Label 18, has become a collector's expression whose depth and complexity speak directly to the extraordinary care and patience of its assembly.
