About the Session

The Port session is a true treasure trove for collectors of Cape and Portuguese fortified wines. It is rare to encounter a collection of vintage Ports such as those featured in the 2026 Strauss Winter Catalogue. With the colder evenings approaching, these complex and beautifully layered wines make the perfect companions to open before dinner, adding warmth and atmosphere to any gathering.

About this Item

The Society's Exhibition Vintage Port 2011
3 (1 x 3) 750ml
The 2011 Douro vintage was the most universally celebrated Port declaration in at least fifty years, and this wine represents a singular and specially commissioned expression of that exceptional year: blended exclusively for Wine Society members by Symington Family Estates to mark The Wine Society's 150th anniversary. The Wine Society, founded in 1874 and the oldest wine club in the world, commissioned this wine from Symington Family Estates, whose portfolio of Port houses includes Graham's, Dow's, Warre's and Quinta do Vesuvio. Fruit was specially selected from some of Symington's finest riverside quintas in both the Cima Corgo and the Douro Superior, with Touriga Nacional at the heart of the blend: the deeply coloured, fragrant and robustly structured variety that forms the backbone of the finest Vintage Ports.

The result is a wine that speaks directly of its exceptional vintage and of the care and heritage of its maker: opulent and sweetly flavoured, with pure concentrated dark fruit, hints of tea leaf and dried herbs, and a rich, long finish that will continue to develop complexity across many years in bottle. "A sweetly flavoured, opulent wine, with pure, concentrated dark fruit, hints of tea leaf and dried herbs, and a rich, long finish. Delicious now, it will continue to develop further complexity in bottle."

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.
