About this Item

Vintage Port 2000
3 (1 x 3) 750ml
The 2000 Douro vintage was declared by a handful of the most selective houses, producing wines of concentrated black fruit, warming structure and the elegant, aromatic complexity that marks the finest declarations from this transitional era in Douro viticulture. Graham's 2000 Vintage Port earned 98 points from James Suckling at Wine Spectator Weekly, making it the 9th wine in Wine Spectator's Top 100 wines of 2003. Graham's, part of the Symington Family Estates, is one of the great traditional Port houses, its wines drawn principally from the legendary Quinta dos Malvedos and Quinta das Lages in the Douro Superior, producing a style of remarkable depth, fragrant aromatics and firm but polished tannins that has placed Graham's consistently among the finest declarations of every celebrated vintage. The 2000 was produced from traditional foot-treading in granite lagares, blending Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barocca, aged for eighteen months in large wooden vats.

These bottles are now entering their optimal drinking window, offering the concentrated dark fruit, cedar, tobacco and warming spirit integration of a great Vintage Port at full maturity.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"Smells like freshly picked orchids, with loads of ripe, clean fruit. Full-bodied, medium sweet and very powerful and racy. It lasts for minutes on your palate. Yet there is a balance and class to this young Vintage Port. This is the greatest glass of Graham I have ever tasted, young or old." - James Suckling, Wine Spectator Weekly, 98/100 (May 2003)
