About the Session

The Port session is a true treasure trove for collectors of Cape and Portuguese fortified wines. It is rare to encounter a collection of vintage Ports such as those featured in the 2026 Strauss Winter Catalogue. With the colder evenings approaching, these complex and beautifully layered wines make the perfect companions to open before dinner, adding warmth and atmosphere to any gathering.

About this Item

Vintage Port 2011
4 (1 x 4) 750ml
The 2011 Douro vintage was universally declared, the most celebrated Port year in a generation, and Fonseca's 2011 Vintage Port earned 96 points from Roger Voss at Wine Enthusiast and 95 points from James Suckling at JamesSuckling.com. Fonseca has belonged to the first rank of Vintage Port producers since the mid-19th century.

Robert Parker famously described it as the Pomerol of Vintage Ports for its luscious, exotic, opulent fruit and extraordinary textural richness. The 2011 draws from the finest plots at Quinta do Panascal in the Tavora Valley and Quinta do Cruzeiro in the Pinhao, foot-trodden in granite lagares with a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barocca, the wine ageing in traditional lodges before bottling.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"A powerful, spicy wine, luscious in its peppered berry fruits and ripe tannins. The structure shows richly, offering a smooth texture and a dry core. This Port has weight, density and a dark character on the finish. For serious ageing." - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 96/100 (Jul 2013)
