About this Item

CWG 2000
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
The 2000 South African vintage is broadly regarded as one of the finest of the modern era, producing wines of exceptional concentration, balance and longevity from the Cape’s best Cabernet-growing sites. Vergelegen’s 2000 CWG is the estate’s Cape Winemakers Guild auction selection from what is regarded as one of its benchmark years, built from carefully selected Rondekop and Stonepine vineyard fruit and matured in French oak. Vergelegen is one of South Africa’s most historically significant wine estates, its origins traceable to 1700, and winemaker André van Rensburg’s tenure from 1998 elevated the estate to international recognition with a succession of wines that earned 5-star status at Platter’s and trophies at the International Wine and Spirit Competition.

Provenance

This lot comes from the late Harold Eedes, who served as Managing Director of Wine Magazine for nine years. A highly respected and much-loved figure in the South African wine industry, Harold assembled a thoughtful collection that includes a number of mature Bordeaux wines. The wines have been professionally stored under temperature-controlled conditions at Brice & Burnett since acquisition.
