About this Item

CWG Sophia 2001
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot. A selection of the best Cobblers Hill barrels and a reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine has been named 'Sophia' after the legendary mother of faith, hope and charity. Representing the characteristics of the 3 Bordeaux varieties that make up this exceptional wine, the cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot were harvested from the best hillside vineyards at Jordan, with views looking out over Table Mountain and False Bay.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes: Complex, dark chocolate, black cherry and cassis intertwine with rich black berry fruit and hints of vanilla and spice from the integrated French oak. Densely layered ripe tannins add to the opulent finish. Well structured, this wine will reward careful cellaring for many years to come.

Provenance

This lot comes from the late Harold Eedes, who served as Managing Director of Wine Magazine for nine years. A highly respected and much-loved figure in the South African wine industry, Harold assembled a thoughtful collection that includes a number of mature Bordeaux wines. The wines have been professionally stored under temperature-controlled conditions at Brice & Burnett since acquisition.
