The Distinguished Cellar of David Brice: A Rhône Collection
About the SessionThe late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Wine Cellar, fine wine merchants. His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Wine Cellar thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.
The Rhône valley was one of David’s favoured regions, known for its diverse range of reds and whites. These were quintessential French wines from excellent easy-drinking, to fine, long-term treasures. He enjoyed wines from all the villages from Vaucluse to Vacqueyras, and Cornas to Côte-Rôtie. David focused on top vintages for long-term maturation and lesser vintages for earlier drinking. The highlight perhaps is his deep collection of top Châteauneuf-du-Pape from great vintages like 2010 and 2007.

Critics Ratings
Clos des Cazaux Gigondas La Tour Sarrasine 2010'
Moving to Gigondas and the estate’s classic cuvee, the 2010 Gigondas La Tour Sarrasine is a knockout blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre that comes from 45-year-old vines and higher elevation, terraced vineyards. Smelling like an open air street market in the south of France, with classic Gigondas spice, pepper, leather and sweet red and black fruit, this medium to full-bodied, rich and surprisingly polished wine has great mid-palate depth and sweet tannin. It will drink well for over a decade.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, 92/100
‘Dark crimson. Aromatic with marked acidity. Relatively light but well balanced. Sprightly. Very fresh.’ - Jancis Robinson, jancisrobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Dec 2011)
Clos des Cazaux Gigondas La Tour Sarrasine 2012
‘Tasted out of barrel, and an incredible looking effort, the 2012 Gigondas Tour Sarrasine should not be missed! A blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre that comes from 45-year-old vines, it boasts awesome, spice-laced blackcurrant fruit, underbrush, garrigue and pepper-driven aromatics that flow to a rich, layered and gorgeously concentrated Gigondas. Count me a fan and this should be just as good, if not better than the 2010. It should have 10-12 years or more of longevity.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, 91-94/100 (Dec 2013)
‘Fruit a little more accented than on the Templiers. Juicier and fresher, too, with more tension and energy. Fine tannins are already well integrated. Good length.’ - Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Nov 2013)
