The Distinguished Cellar of David Brice: A Rhône Collection
About the Session

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Wine Cellar, fine wine merchants. His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Wine Cellar thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

The Rhône valley was one of David’s favoured regions, known for its diverse range of reds and whites. These were quintessential French wines from excellent easy-drinking, to fine, long-term treasures. He enjoyed wines from all the villages from Vaucluse to Vacqueyras, and Cornas to Côte-Rôtie. David focused on top vintages for long-term maturation and lesser vintages for earlier drinking. The highlight perhaps is his deep collection of top Châteauneuf-du-Pape from great vintages like 2010 and 2007.

About this Item

Gigondas La Tour Sarrasine 2018
6 (1 x 6) 1500ml
The name La Tour Sarrasine refers to the historic Saracen tower that stands near the family’s vineyards, a landmark of the estate’s traditional terroir. The vineyards lie in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail, in the southernmost part of the Gigondas AOC, on stony limestone soils that produce wines with both sun‑driven ripeness and freshness.

Critics Ratings

‘Dark magenta. Displays spice-accented red fruit and floral scents, along with a smoky mineral top note. Juicy and smooth on the palate, its appealingly sweet Chambord, boysenberry and spicecake flavors are underscored by a spicy touch of white pepper. Polished tannins frame a very long, smooth finish that echoes the spice and mineral notes. 2023-2031’ - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 92/100 (Jan 2023)

‘A rather reductive nose and very full-bodied with a good sense of tension and grip. Pretty grand and gothic style, very dramatic. Highly concentrated, but somehow still balanced. A very big wine, but not flabby. From terraced vineyards at 200-300m altitude. Matured for 24 months in stainless steel and concrete. 2021-2027’ - Matt Walls, Decanter, 92/100 (Oct 2019)
