The Distinguished Cellar of David Brice: A Rhône Collection
About the Session

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Wine Cellar, fine wine merchants. His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Wine Cellar thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

The Rhône valley was one of David’s favoured regions, known for its diverse range of reds and whites. These were quintessential French wines from excellent easy-drinking, to fine, long-term treasures. He enjoyed wines from all the villages from Vaucluse to Vacqueyras, and Cornas to Côte-Rôtie. David focused on top vintages for long-term maturation and lesser vintages for earlier drinking. The highlight perhaps is his deep collection of top Châteauneuf-du-Pape from great vintages like 2010 and 2007.

About this Item

Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel 2017
10 (1 x 10) 750ml
The Coudoulet de Beaucastel, the estate’s Côtes du Rhône bottling or “baby Beaucastel,” comes from vineyards just outside Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape on soils of marine molasse and galets roulés that enhance ripeness and depth. This refined Rhône red showcases the Perrin family’s craftsmanship and terroir expression, often outperforming its peers.

Critics Ratings

'While full bodied and plump, this perfumed red offers bright, sunny layers of crisp red cherry and plum marked by lovely twists of tart cassis and raspberry. A bright, sunny wine, it finishes on fine, smooth tannins and hints of crushed earth and sage.' - Anna Lee C. Iijima, Wine Enthusiast, 92/100 (Jul 2020)

'Still not yet bottled for my June visit (it was scheduled to be bottled at the end of the month), the final blend of the 2017 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet de Beaucastel was showing plenty of garrigue and dried-spice notes layered over cherry fruit. Full-bodied, silky textured and long on the finish, it should drink well for a decade or more. 2019-2030' - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 90-92/100 (Aug 2019)

'Fragrant, spicy, fairly light compared with Famille Perrin's Gigondas and Vinsobres cuvées. Still a closed book, but the clarity of fruit is very promising. 2019-2026' - Richard Hemming MW, jancisrobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Oct 2018)
