The Distinguished Cellar of David Brice: A Rhône Collection
About the Session

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Wine Cellar, fine wine merchants. His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Wine Cellar thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

The Rhône valley was one of David’s favoured regions, known for its diverse range of reds and whites. These were quintessential French wines from excellent easy-drinking, to fine, long-term treasures. He enjoyed wines from all the villages from Vaucluse to Vacqueyras, and Cornas to Côte-Rôtie. David focused on top vintages for long-term maturation and lesser vintages for earlier drinking. The highlight perhaps is his deep collection of top Châteauneuf-du-Pape from great vintages like 2010 and 2007.

About this Item

Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel 2007
2 (1 x 2) 750ml
The Coudoulet de Beaucastel, the estate’s Côtes du Rhône bottling or “baby Beaucastel,” comes from vineyards just outside Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape on soils of marine molasse and galets roulés that enhance ripeness and depth. This refined Rhône red showcases the Perrin family’s craftsmanship and terroir expression, often outperforming its peers.

Critics Ratings

'The blockbuster 2007 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet, always one of the best bargains from the south, may be the finest Coudoulet ever produced. A blend of 30% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache, and the rest Syrah, Cinsault, and a few other authorized varietals, is incredibly opulent and rich, with sensational notes of black currants, licorice, smoked herbs, and meat juices, a full-bodied mouthfeel, savory tannins, and good acidity as well as length. This outstanding wine can be drunk now or cellared for 10-15 years. 2009-2024' - Robert M. Parker, Jr., Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Oct 2009)

'Ripe but well focused, with a beam of fig and ganache running through the middle, while licorice, mulled spice and incense notes fill in the edges. A tarry hint frames the finish.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 90/100 (Feb 2010)

'Very dark crimson. Spicy and very lively – not as rich and dense as top Châteauneuf-du-Papes, but very spicy and attractive. Dry finish. Not sumptuous, but with integrity and herbal notes. Lots of acidity and quite a bit of toughness. Pretty heady and rich though a bit brutal on the finish but rich, clear and vibrant and exciting!' - Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, 17/20 (Dec 2008)
