The Distinguished Cellar of David Brice: A Rhône Collection
About the Session

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Wine Cellar, fine wine merchants. His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Wine Cellar thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

The Rhône valley was one of David’s favoured regions, known for its diverse range of reds and whites. These were quintessential French wines from excellent easy-drinking, to fine, long-term treasures. He enjoyed wines from all the villages from Vaucluse to Vacqueyras, and Cornas to Côte-Rôtie. David focused on top vintages for long-term maturation and lesser vintages for earlier drinking. The highlight perhaps is his deep collection of top Châteauneuf-du-Pape from great vintages like 2010 and 2007.

About this Item

Hermitage Blanc Chante Alouette 2011
2 (1 x 2) 750ml
A classic white from the prestigious Hermitage AOC in the Northern Rhône, made entirely from 100 % Marsanne. The grapes come from several high‑quality vineyard sites on the Hermitage hill, including Le Méal, Les Murets and the Chante‑Alouette parcel itself. The name Chante‑Alouette (“singing lark”) refers to the specific vineyard terroir that plays a key role in the cuvée’s character, emphasizing site identity and complexity, a hallmark of Chapoutier’s Hermitage whites.

Critics Ratings

‘Possibly the finest cuvee of this wine I have ever tasted, the stunning, rich 2011 Ermitage Chante Alouette comes from three separate parcels on Hermitage Hill (Meal, Les Murets and Chante Alouette) and reveals plenty of white currant, buttered citrus, tangerine oil and honeysuckle along with hints of such exotic fruits as mango. It is a full-bodied, Montrachet-styled, dry white.’ - Robert M. Parker, Jr., Wine Advocate, 95/100 (Dec 2012)

‘This is the most impressive Chante-Alouette I can recall, boasting layers of honeyed pineapple fruit, the barest hint of fresh, just-golden toastiness and notes of gingered apricot. It's full bodied and lush on the palate, ending long and mouthwatering. It should drink well into 2015, but expect it to close up only to re-emerge between 2020 and 2030.’ - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Enthusiast, 92/100 (Nov 2014)
