The Distinguished Cellar of David Brice: A Rhône Collection
About the Session

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Wine Cellar, fine wine merchants. His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Wine Cellar thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

The Rhône valley was one of David’s favoured regions, known for its diverse range of reds and whites. These were quintessential French wines from excellent easy-drinking, to fine, long-term treasures. He enjoyed wines from all the villages from Vaucluse to Vacqueyras, and Cornas to Côte-Rôtie. David focused on top vintages for long-term maturation and lesser vintages for earlier drinking. The highlight perhaps is his deep collection of top Châteauneuf-du-Pape from great vintages like 2010 and 2007.

About this Item

Condrieu La Doriane 2012
2 (1 x 2) 750ml
"La Doriane" refers to a specific vineyard or cuvée of E. Guigal's Condrieu, carrying significant meaning related to both the wine's origins and its characteristics. This wine hails from the Condrieu appellation in the Northern Rhône region of France, situated on steep granite hillsides. The grapes are sourced from some of the finest vineyards in the area, such as Côtes Chatillon, Coteaux de Chery, and Château Volan, which is renowned for producing some of the world's most exquisite Viognier wines.

Critics Ratings

‘The 2012 Condrieu la Doriane is much more open and flamboyant than the tighter, slightly closed 2013 and offers full-bodied notes of quince, orange blossom, white peach and exotic flowers. This is a classic Condrieu that offers everything you could want, and it's drinking perfectly today.’ - Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, 96/100 (Dec 2016)

‘This seems a tad more restrained than usual for La Doriane, which has typically been extremely lush and exotic in the past. The 2012 isn't as over the top, but still shows plenty of ripe apricot and tropical fruit framed by smoky oak and baking spices. The finish is long and mouthwatering, suggesting at least a few years of longevity.’ - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Enthusiast, 94/100 (Jan 2015)

‘A showy style, with aromatic apricot, orange, quince, fig and pear notes all weaving together and pumping through a bold, toasted hazelnut— and almond-filled finish. Shows plenty of power, delivering length and definition.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 94/100 (Nov 2014)

(all new oak here): Bright yellow. Assertive aromas of nectarine, violet and smoky minerals, with a gingery nuance adding lift. Broad and silky on the palate, offering densely packed orchard and pit fruit flavors that become spicier with air. The mineral note comes back strong on the finish, which lingers with excellent tenacity and building smokiness.’ - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 93/100 (Mar 2014)
