About this Item

A pair of blue and white porcelain doll house vases from the Vung Tau shipwreck, c.1690
height: 5,5cm; diameter: 1,5cm

Notes

Miniature blue and white porcelain vases of baluster form. Recovered from the Vung Tau shipwreck.

The Vung Tau cargo was recovered in 1992 from a shipwreck discovered off the coast of southern Vietnam. The vessel is believed to have sunk around 1690 while transporting a cargo of Chinese export porcelain from the Kangxi period. The ceramics reflect the extensive maritime trade networks of the late 17th century and were later dispersed through international auctions following their recovery.

Provenance

Recovered from the wreck of the Vung Tau.

Lot 752, Vung Tau Cargo, Christies Amsterdam, April 1992.

Private Collection.
