Notes

Isitebe are traditional Zulu grinding mats used primarily by women during food preparation. Made from tightly bound reeds or grasses and laid on the ground to create a clean, stable working surface. It is used when grinding sorghum, maize, or millet with a stone, preventing grain from being lost into the soil and protecting the meal from contamination.
