Notes

Hanneke Benadé received her BA in Fine Arts (Printmaking) from the University of Pretoria in 1993. That same year she won a Sasol New Signatures Judges’ Award. She returned to the University of Pretoria the following year as a part-time lecturer in drawing, a post she held until 1998. In 1996, Benadé held her first solo exhibition entitled Local Girls at a gallery in Johannesburg. Since then, she has had numerous solo exhibitions locally and participated in many local and international group shows. With pastels as her medium of choice, Benadé creates evocative works that are rooted in realism.

Benadé’s artwork can be found in corporate collections such as ABSA Bank, Sanlam, Sasol, Spier Holdings, and Telkom as well as in the art collections of the Pretoria Art Museum, University of Pretoria, University of Johannesburg, and Stellenbosch University. She is currently a full-time artist who lives and works in Robertson.
