the oval tapering sides incorporating a pair of lug handles, the cover surmounted with shaped wooden mounts.
height: 44cm over handles; width: 60cm; depth: 49cm
Notes
Large teak balies with lids were used in the household for meat pickling and were called 'vleisbalies or 'pekelbalies'.
Before refrigeration, meat was preserved by salting or pickling in brine which kept provisions through winter and periods of scarcity.
