About this Item

each with a shaped top rail and a central stylised fan motif, above two tiers of spindles within turned uprights, rush seats, raised on tapering turned legs joined by turned and railed box-stretcher
(2)
height: 96cm: width: 49,5cm; depth: 38cm
Notes
These chairs are a classic form of English country furniture from the Mid and West country areas. Valued for their comfort and craft tradition, they are related to the ladderback chair but with double-tiered, vertical, turned spindles instead of horizontal slats.
The 'fan' motif on the top rail is a common provincial interpretation of the late Georgian design vocabulary.
