2017 Chardonnay Radicales Libres
3 (1 x 3) 750ml
Inspired by white wines aged oxidatively around the world, the Radicales Libres was created by picking the Chardonnay at normal ripeness levels followed by fermentation and several years of barrel maturation. This cuvée pioneered the recognition of, and now officially registered category for, this style of wine in South Africa in 2018, as ‘Extended Barrel Aged White Wines’.

‘Radicales Libres is Andre Mullineux's tribute to the oxidatively handled white wines of López de Heredia in Rioja, released late and made with no added sulphites. Sourced from slate soils in Barrydale, it's a very unusual Chardonnay from a brilliant winemaker, with notes of citrus, wax and sourdough bread, some nuts and orange peel and a drizzle of honey. 2024-32’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2023, 96/100
