About the SessionIt's rare to witness a collection of vintage ports like what's on offer in the 2025 Strauss winter catalogue. With the cold evenings approaching, these complex beauties are the perfect companions to open before dinner to warm the atmosphere.
About this Item
This lot consists of the following Ports:
Monis Collectors Port - 300th Anniversary of Paarl - Ceramic Decanters 1961 (1 x 750ml)
Monis Collectors Port - Artillery Cannons 1961 (1 x 750ml)
'Port' from the exceptional 1961 vintage spent two years in 500-litre French oak barrels before being transferred to large wooden vats for further maturation. Bottling was postponed until justified by a special event, such as Paarl's tercentenary in 1987, when the wine was carefully decanted from the vats to separate it from the natural sediment that collected over the years. Wine of Origin Paarl.
For Paarl's 300th Anniversary, the wine was bottled in ceramic containers resembling those used by the Portuguese early in the 18th century. Fewer than 8000 bottles (individually numbered) were released.
For the Artillery Cannons Collection, 4500 bottles were individually numbered on labels featuring artillery pieces used during the Anglo-Boer War, such as the Lord Nelson, Long Tom and (in this case) Long Cecil.

'Blend of Tinta Barocca, Souzão, Cinsaut and Cabernet, has charm, elegant nuttiness' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 1992, 4*
'Label features a Long Tom - which killed its designer on its first outing. This blend of Tinta Barocca, Cabernet Sauvignon, Souzão and Cinsaut is no such disaster: rich, nutty, gently elegant.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 1991, 4*
