6 (1 x 6) 750ml

The Treinspoor is part of the Sadie Family Old Vine Series, South Africa's most sought-after modern wines. From 40+ year old vines, this 100% Tinta Barocca is named after the railway line that runs alongside the vineyard. The Treinspoor can be considered his longest-ageing red wine.

Critics Ratings

'"The greatest grape for the Swartland," says Eben Sadie of Tinta Barocca, unconcerned that no one seems to agree with him. Treinspoor can be hard to like in its youth, but not in 2019. Yes, it has grunt and density, but it's also savoury, aromatic and perfumed, like a cross between a Nebbiolo and north ern Rhône Syrah, all tar, liquorice, blackberry, charcuterie and racy, refreshing acidity. 2023-35' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 96/100

'The 2019 Treinspoor, 80% whole-cluster Tinta Barocca matured in old foudre, presents a crisp, well-defined bouquet of blackberry, briar and wild fennel scents, gaining intensity all the time in the glass. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Taut and crisp, almost pixelated in style, leading to a sensual, mulberry-tinged finish. Very elegant and refined. 2022-2038' - Neal Martin, Vinous, 93/100 (Apr 2021)

'From Swartland Tinta Barocca. Exotic aromatics with notes of dried herbs, lavender, liquorice and earth in addition to go with dark, slightly jammy fruit. The palate is medium bodied and just about fresh enough, the tannins quite smooth. Not sure of rustic appeal but a bit off the pace relative to its stablemates.' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 91/100 (Feb 2021)
