Notes

The 'Now Now' clock is a digital grandfather clock and repository for family information and memorabilia. This collaboration between Joe Paine and Nathan Gates formed part of the Future Heirlooms project by American Harwood Export Council, presented at Always Welcome in Johannesburg (2022) in collaboration with seven South African design studios working in American red oak. The material is not one commonly used in South Africa and the focus on Future Heirlooms drew inspiration from "ancient elements of Egyptian architecture and the coffered ceiling of the Roman Pantheon to reflect the Egyptian focus on death and the enduring nature of the Pantheon in the clock's design".
