A large Japanese Arita VOC dish, second half 17th century
circular, painted in underglaze-blue with a central roundel of the VOC (Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie) monogram surrounded by two ho-ho birds, pomegranates and camellias, the border with six alternating panels enclosing bamboo and peonies, 36,5cm diameter

Notes

VOC plates were made to order for 'The Company' for the use of the staff in all their widespread stations.
