About this Item

Côte-Rôtie, 2010
4 (1 x 4) 750ml

Domaine Michel & Stéphane Ogier is a producer in the northern Rhône appellation of Côte Rôtie. It is especially well known for varietal Syrah from several highly regarded appellations in the region, but also making small amounts of Viognier from Condrieu and red and white Vin de Pays wine.

The Ogier family has farmed the Rhône Valley for generations, including tending vineyards. The domaine was formed by Michel Ogier who had been growing grapes in the village of Ampuis in Côte Rôtie and selling them, notably to famous Rhône producers Guigal and Chapoutier.

Critics Ratings

‘The largest cuvee (20,000 bottles) is the 2010 Cote Rotie Classique, Stephane Ogier’s “greatest vintage to date.” Seventy percent of the fruit comes from their holdings on the Cote Brune. It boasts a dense purple color along with a sweet nose of asphalt, licorice, forest floor, blackberries, cassis and bouquet garni, sensational concentration and sweet tannins. The structure, freshness and minerality suggest another 3-4 years of cellaring may be beneficial. It has 25 years of potential evolution.’ – Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 95/100 (Dec 2012)

‘Lots of bramble and anise notes pump along, with blackberry and boysenberry accents chiming in. The juicy, focused finish features finely beaded acidity, letting a sweet tapenade element stretch out while the structure sits in reserve. Should flesh out in the cellar.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 94/100 (Nov 2013)

‘Inky purple. Cassis, candied cherry and red berry skin aromas are lifted by an intense floral note. Supple and appealingly sweet, with spicecake and floral nuances adding complexity to the sappy red berry flavors. Youthfully taut but very pure. Finishes very long, with silky, harmonious tannins and lingering flavors of red fruits and licorice pastille.’ – Josh Reynolds, Vinous, 93/100 (Mar 2013)

‘This is a pretty, elegant Côte Rôtie, only medium in body, but with a lovely silky texture and a tart, lingering finish. Herbal aromas suggest green olives, and there’s a hint of bacon smoke to go with flavors of tart raspberries and cherries.’ – Joe Czerwinski, Wine Enthusiast, 92/100 (Sep 2014)

`Domaine Michel & Stephane Ogier Côte-Rôtie is the flagship wine of the Ogier family domaine in Ampuis, spearheaded by the dynamic and talented Stephane Ogier. Still a youngster in French winemaking terms, Stephane Ogier is an ambitious, Burgundy-trained winemaker with a goal of sustaining his family`s reputation for creating fine, ageworthy terroir Côte-Rôtie wines, while expanding the family`s reach into other Rhône appellations. This has a brooding attitude and a darker colour in the glass. It offer coal smoke, tarry notes, black fruits, star anise and even brown spices. On the palate it`s assertive and powerful, delivering mouth-filling red- and dark- plum fruits; it`s sappy and stony, and long tannins press the finish deep. Still needs time. Best from 2018.’ - James Suckling, 2016
