‘The largest cuvee (20,000 bottles) is the 2010 Cote Rotie Classique, Stephane Ogier’s “greatest vintage to date.” Seventy percent of the fruit comes from their holdings on the Cote Brune. It boasts a dense purple color along with a sweet nose of asphalt, licorice, forest floor, blackberries, cassis and bouquet garni, sensational concentration and sweet tannins. `Domaine Michel & Stephane Ogier Côte-Rôtie is the flagship wine of the Ogier family domaine in Ampuis, spearheaded by the dynamic and talented Stephane Ogier. Still a youngster in French winemaking terms, Stephane Ogier is an ambitious, Burgundy-trained winemaker with a goal of sustaining his family`s reputation for creating fine, ageworthy terroir Côte-Rôtie wines, while expanding the family`s reach into other Rhône appellations. This has a brooding attitude and a darker colour in the glass. It offer coal smoke, tarry notes, black fruits, star anise and even brown spices. On the palate it`s assertive and powerful, delivering mouth-filling red- and dark- plum fruits; it`s sappy and stony, and long tannins press the finish deep. Still needs time.
