About this Item

2013 Côte-Rôtie
3 (1 x 3) 750ml

Tardieu-Laurent is a French négociant enterprise known for the consistently high quality of its wines, which come from the Rhône Valley and from other parts of southern France. It was set up in 1994 by Dominque Laurent and Michel Tardieu, though is now run solely by the latter.

The company has no vineyard holdings. Rather, it buys young wines, which are then matured and blended before bottling. Despite this, Tardieu-Laurent is very much an artisan producer – around 20 barrels only are made of each wine every year.

While the cellars are located in the Luberon, the wines fall under various red and white Rhône appellations, including Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Cornas and Côtes du Rhône. Tardieu-Laurent also make a Tavel rosé and a red Bandol.

Critics Ratings

‘Purplish crimson. From the Côte Brune, and another extremely intense wine. Salty and savoury and uncompromising – again with more ripeness than many of its peers. Are these wines late picked or does the whole-bunch fermentation lead to this roundness? Rounder and broader than most Côte Rôtie yet with the trademark freshness of the appellation. Really humming and a bit like a Dyson on the palate.’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Oct 2014)

‘Energetic, with engaging, vivacious bramble, savory, violet, bay and anise notes flowing along, leading to pure cassis and bitter cherry flavors. Reveals a lovely tug of leathery bay leaf at the very end. Best from 2018 through 2025.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Jun 2016)

‘Another wine that's a classic representation of the appellation and the vintage is the 2013 Cote Rotie, which all comes from parcels in the Cote Brune side of the appellation and offers textbook notes of black raspberries, spring flowers, smoke, olives and sappy underbrush. Complex, nuanced and layered, this medium-bodied beauty has fabulous tension and energy on the palate, with integrated acidity, fine, polished tannin and terrific length. It's not a blockbuster by any means, but it shines for its purity, elegance and length. It needs 3-4 years of cellaring and will drink well for a decade after that.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (May 2016)

‘Opaque ruby. Seductive, mineral-accented aromas of blueberry preserves, cherry cola, violet and olive paste and a smoky mineral topnote. Dark berry liqueur flavors provide excellent energy, breadth and depth, displaying a subtle vanilla accent and building spiciness. Plays richness off vivacity with a sure hand and shows no excess weight. Finishes with impressively persistent black and blue fruit notes, velvety tannins and strong, spicy persistence.’ – Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 93/100 (Feb 2016)
