Critics Ratings
‘Pale greenish gold. A bit richer on the nose than the Bateleur. Round and rewarding still even if more refined than the old style. A bit of warmth on the finish but an admirable long-lived South African Chardonnay.’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Jan 2015)
‘Another gem, this in Burgundian mould, from a Cape chardonnay pioneer. Tantalisingly subtle on the nose, yet 2009 is full, lithe & silky in the mouth, generously layered with ripe citrus & gooseberry fruit. Unevolved mid-2011 but will richly reward patience.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2012, 5*
‘The 2009 The Site Chardonnay has a very refined bouquet with touches of lemon curd and almond, the best defined of all De Wetshof’s Chardonnays. The palate is neutral on the entry but builds on the mouth, a wine defined more by its pleasing texture than flavour compared to The Site ‘10, but its demonstrates precision on the Chassagne-like finish. Drink now-2018.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Aug 2011)
‘Citrus and upfront vanilla on the nose. Big and bold, rich and textured on the palate. Flavours of citrus and stone fruit. Deft use of oak, soft acidity. Drink now – 2012.’ – Christian Eedes Report, 4 Stars, (2011)
