About this Item

1982 Pessac-Léognan Rouge
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

Château la Mission Haut-Brion is a Bordeaux wine from the Pessac-Léognan appellation, classed among the Crus Classés in the Graves classification of 1953. With a long history of winemaking, La Mission Haut-Brion has consistently performed as a wine and garnered the respect of many international wine critics. Jancis Robinson MW describes La Mission as "the quintessential insider's wine". Situated on uniquely stony soil, the vineyard is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small amount of Cabernet Franc; the grand vin and second wine, La Chapelle de la Mission, are made from these. In 2009, the white wine previously made under the label of Château Laville Haut-Brion was added to the main La Mission Haut-Brion stable, and its annual production is between 500 and 700 cases.

Critics Ratings

‘The 1982 La Mission Haut-Brion is a vintage that I have tasted several times. This bottle has a gorgeous, eucalyptus-tinged bouquet of black fruit plus hints of clove and bayleaf; a light marine scent emerges with aeration. The palate has a ripe pastille-like quality, dark cherries commingling with blackberry and cranberry. A lovely saline undertow lends sapidity on the harmonious finish.’ - Neal Martin, Vinous, 94/100 (Sept 2021)

‘Much deeper ruby. Edgy and with noticeably more tannin left than the Haut-Brion 1982 tasted alongside. Thick and sweet. Initially a bit austere and tough but it developed in the glass to something gorgeous and possibly with a longer life than the Haut-Brion. Inky and fresh with quite a dry, but not drying, finish.’ - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 19/20 (Oct 2016)
