Since 2013, Chris and Andrea Mullineux have been working on a new project that focuses on vineyards outside of the Swartland appellation which have been specially selected by Rosa Kruger. Together with their partner Analijt Singh they launched their game changing Leeu Passant wines. Produced from old vines, including the oldest registered red wine vineyard in South Africa, these wines redefine the South African wine landscape. Their inspiration comes from past successes of the 50s, 60s and 70s, like Chateau Libertas and Rustenberg Dry Red. Their wines speak of South Africa’s heritage and bring the unique wines of the past into the future.

2014 - ‘Inspired by a Rioja winemaker, hence the Spanish name and ‘extended barrel-age’ styling. ‘Andrea Mullineux makes this as a tribute to the white wines of the Jura and (old fashioned) Rioja. Sourced from a vineyard on slate soils out in Barrydale in the Karoo, it's left unsulphured in barrels for five years, where it develops some flor yeast, giving it a combination of salty, bready intensity and oxidative complexity. 2016 - ‘Chardonnay from Barrydale in Klein Karoo, matured 5 years in oak in evaporative environment à la Rioja, previously Andrea Mullineux’s CWG wine. Arresting citrus tang on nose and palate, 2016 profoundly dry with salted almond savouriness, satisfying tannin tug.
