34,7cm brass dial with silvered chapter ring, gilt Arabic hour numerals and outer minute markers, inscribed Smith & Son Ltd, 9 Strand, London, subsidiary seconds dial, subsidiary dials for chime/silent and Whittington/Westminster chime, a moon phase and date aperture in the arch, engine-turned floral and foliate decoration, eight-day regulator movement with anchor escapement chiming the quarters on eight tubular bells, striking the full hour on a large tubular bell, mercury pendulum, the hood centred by a female mask, shell patera to each corner, the arched glazed door flanked by fretwork panels and turned fluted columns, panelled sides, the trunk with an astragal-glazed door flanked by turned fluted columns, the moulded panelled base centred by a mask enclosed by fretwork borders, shaped moulded apron, on lion-paw and flat bun feet, distress, 268cm high
