Purchased by a French Huguenot back in 1709 and situated in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley, La Motte was named after a little village in Provence France and has been producing wine since 1752. The farm was then purchased by Dr Anton Rupert in 1970 and is now under the ownership of Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg and her husband Hein. Reinvestment has allowed La Motte to become a leading global wine producer. From the terrific 2009 vintage, grapes were harvested from vineyards in Swartland, Walker Bay, Franschhoek, Elim, Paarl and Stellenbosch. It achieved Gold at the China Wine & Spirits Awards, the Veritas Awards and featured in the 2012 Top 100 Wines of SA.
