About this Item

2008 - 2009 Barolo Collection
4 (1 x 4) 750ml

Poderi Aldo Conterno is a Piedmont producer known for its wines from the best parcels of the Bussia vineyard in Monforte d'Alba. Aldo Conterno, who died in 2012, was regarded by many as the greatest of all Barolo winemakers. The business was founded in 1969 when Aldo bought the Favot estate with its Bussia holdings. For the previous eight years, he had managed Giacomo Conterno with his brother, but left to make wines in a less resolutely traditionalist environment. The estate is now run by his three sons.

This lot consists of the following wines:
Aldo Conterno Barolo 2008 (1 x 750ml)
Aldo Conterno Borolo Bussia Romirasco 2008 (2 x 750ml)
Aldo Conterno Conca Tre Pile Barbera d'Alba 2009 (1 x 750ml)

Critics Ratings

Aldo Conterno Barolo 2008
‘Concentrated ruby. Fine red fruit and a hint of oak. Wonderful freshness with great tannic grip. Will even be more interesting in a year or so. Perhaps a little bit astringent right now.’ - Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Sep 2012)

‘Beautiful raspberry, cherry and black currant flavors are backed by firm, dusty tannins in this harmonious, fresh red. Floral and tobacco notes add dimension as this cruises to a long, lingering finish. Best from 2016 through 2033’ - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 94/100 (Feb 2013)

Aldo Conterno Borolo Bussia Romirasco 2008
Very deep ruby. Very concentrated, and oak driven. The nose almost looks like Cicala blended with Colonnello. Lots of succulent fruit followed by a minerally but restrained finish. Still a little bit unsettled on the finish. Very long and perfumed.’ - Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Sep 2012)

‘The 2008 Barolo Romirasco is striking. It possesses a cool, mineral-drenched personality similar to the Cicala, but with an extra dimension of textural finesse. Sweet red berries, flowers, mint and crushed rocks are woven together in this exquisite, gorgeous Barolo. Powerful and authoritative, the Romirasco impresses for its depth and unmistakable pedigree. Today the 2008 is an infant, but great things are in store for those who can wait. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028.’ - Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, 96/100 (Apr 2012)

Aldo Conterno Conca Tre Pile Barbera d'Alba 2009
Expressive aromas and flavors of smoke, grilled sage, cedar and cherry mark this succulent and complex red, which is firm and long on the finish, if a bit hot in the balance.’ - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Dec 2013)

Deep violet ruby. Enormous concentration of red and dark fruit framed by posh oak. Good freshness and length, but falls a little bit away on the finish.’ - Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Sep 2012)
