Thanks to the emergence of modern icons like Numanthia, which offers a rarely-seen combination of power and elegance, ‘Spain has become the most dynamic wine region in Europe’ says Wine Spectator. Numanthia’s style relies on a selection of un-grafted, unirrigated 70 – 120-year-old vines of Tinta de Toro (a clone of Tempranillo). Tinta de Toro yields great fruit concentration, intensity and structure – a more powerful and opulent style of wine compared to traditional Rioja. Upon its inception in 1998, Robert Parker wrote: ‘This sensational new offering will prove to be the breakthrough effort for the Toro appellation.’ In the late 2000s, Neal Martin wrote: ‘This wine should be at the top of any Toro-lovers’ list.’

‘Mammoth from the beginning. The nose practically bleeds black fruit, fine leather and charcoal. Calling the bouquet alluring would be conservative. In the mouth, the wine pumps black cherry, cassis and enough acidity to coax out plenty of complexity and vitality.
