About this Item
The Beaumont family were among the first to harness the potential of wine grapes in the picturesque Bot River district and with Sebastian Beaumont at the helm their reputation is established as a fine wine producer, spearheaded by the consistently superb reserve Chenin from the oldest vineyard blocks on the farm (planted 1974 & 1978).
Quietly regarded as one of South Africa’s benchmark Chenin Blancs, this barrel fermented, elegant style put Bot River and Beaumont on the fine wine map. Known to age for a decade or more, the Hope Marguerite has the longest consecutive Platter 5* track record in the history of the guide.

Hope Marguerite 2012
'Internationally lauded a SA classic, the farm's top white is from low-yielding old vines. Drier 2012's cool-fruited focus, tension & freshness has a subtle, rich undertone. Elegant & polished, with modest 12.6% alcohol belying its intensity.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2014, 5*
Hope Marguerite 2013
Cool and with some sweetness – very, very different structure to most. More Loire-like and cooler than the SA norm. The impression is more middle-Loire lightness. Pure middle-Loire flavours. Tangy.' – Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Jan 2015)
'There may be some of the even better 2012 left in the marketplace, but even in a trickier, wetter vintage, this top of the range Chenin Blanc delivers the goods. Natural fermentation, lees stirring in larger oak and a touch of botrytis all contribute to the savoury complexity of this balanced, nuanced white. Drink: 2014-20.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2014, 93/100
'Full yellow. High toned (botrytis-influenced?) aromas lemon, mandarin orange, apple, honey and wild herbs. Sweet, densely packed and quite suave, with superconcentrated, rather exotic fruit flavours framed by excellent acidity and lifted with a limey quality. Nicely rising, fresh finish.' – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 90/100 (Apr 2015)
Hope Marguerite 2015
‘Scintillating 2015 reflects super harvest but retains restrained styling of 2014 (4.5 stars, 94 pts). Lively tension between leesy width and vibrant citrus tang. Year oak, 15% new, shows as a delicious, understated oatmeal gloss. Proven pedigree from 40-year-old vines.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2017, 5*
‘The Hope Marguerite often has a little residual sugar (7.1 grams here), but like a great Vouvray Demi-Sec the sweetness is balanced by acidity. Toasty oak, honey and tarte tatin favours, lots of volume and texture on the palate and acidity that lifts the finish to another plane.’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2016, 94/100
'Beaumont's Hope Marguerite is always a stunner. The 2015 bottling opens with forward fynbos and baking-spice aromas that are supported by notes of red apple, orange blossom and fennel. The medium-weight mouthfeel boasts rich flavors of spiced citrus and apple pie, with waves of toasted spice and honeyed almond dancing through the long, evolving finish. It's a complex wine that should drink well through 2022.’ – Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 92/100 (May 2017)
Hope Marguerite 2019
‘The 2019 Chenin Blanc Marguerite presents a well-defined nose of peach skin, tangerine peel and light white flower scents that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is fresh and vibrant with more weight than the regular Chenin Blanc, and a little more extract and texture. Lovely satsuma and subtle ginger notes furnish the finish. Very fine.’ - Neal Martin, Vinous, 92/100 (Jul 2021)
