Kanonkop is often described as the South African equivalent of a Grand Cru or First Growth. Owned by the fourth generation Krige family, Abri Beeslaar is their long-term winemaker who has won International Winemaker of the year an incredible 3 times. Renowned for decades of ageing, Kanonkop’s Cabernet Sauvignon is austere when young and ages with grace.

‘100% Cabernet. These generally sturdy, long-lived cabernets, deriving richness and power – rather than smooth elegance – from excellent, mature vines and consistent cellar treatment … 1990 surprisingly good – though more one-dimensional – for the vintage.’  Platter’s SA Wine Guide 1994, 4 stars
