Burnt by the Sun, the collective title for a cycle of important sculptures, drawings and lithographs, references Claudette
Schreuders' maternal grandparents who immigrated to South Africa from the Netherlands in 1942. The present lot, a fine and delicate colour pencil drawing, a preparatory sketch for a lifesize sculpture with the same title, was exhibited at the Jack Shainman Gallery in New York in 2002 together with 11 other coloured pencil drawings.
