Notes
Joseph Jackson is a notable name in Georgian Irish silver, with surviving examples of his work ranging from domestic salts and goblets to dish rings, baskets and larger presentation pieces. His workshop was associated with Hoey’s Court, one of Dublin’s historic centres of the goldsmithing trade, and his standing within the profession was later reflected in his election as Warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company from 1791 to 1793 and Master from 1795 to 1796. His work is consequently of particular interest to collectors of Dublin silver, providing a tangible link to the city’s highly developed Georgian silversmithing tradition.
