About this Item

Copenhagen, Denmark
A Georg Jensen silver pipkin, designed by Harald Nielsen, number 644A, Denmark, c.1930
the circular shallow body fitted with a pale hardwood handle, 365g
height including handle: 8,5cm; width: 26cm; diameter of bowl: 16cm

Notes

Model 644A belongs to the compact, functional hollowware Nielsen designed for Georg Jensen in the years immediately following his celebrated Pyramid pattern, sharing its restrained geometry and stepped detailing even though it falls outside the Pyramid line's own numbering. The pale hardwood handle, set on a stepped silver mount that echoes the faceted "steps" motif of Jensen's Art Deco work, exemplifies the pared back, architectural sensibility Nielsen brought to the workshop's smaller domestic silver, a deliberate departure from the ornamented revival styles still favoured by many of his contemporaries.
