The Mary Eleanor Hibbert collection.

Notes

In the 17th and 18th centuries it was customary among the Dutch at the Cape to give memorials to mourners at a funeral. This was often in the form of a spoon and fork, and it is possibly through this circumstance that these came to be made at the Cape in the 17th century.
