About this Item
Cape Colony
A Cape silver fish slice, William Godfried Lotter, c.1810-1835
the pierced blade engraved with wrigglework, applied with a hollow handle, 205g all in
lenght: 19cm
Provenance
The Mary Eleanor Hibbert collection.
Notes
Introduced to the Cape by English silversmiths in the second quarter of the 19th century. Since a fish slice was then normally included in a service of table silver, the handles were made to match the rest of the service, the blades generally have a engraved and pierced decoration.
