Fritz Haag
Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Auslese 2019
Germany
About the SessionThis is the largest list of German wines Strauss & Co has ever offered! Once regarded as the greatest wines in the world, German and specifically Mosel Riesling are long aging and investment worthy. Running deep through the Mosel, Saar and Ruwer and across celebrated vintages including the ripe 2009, the warm 2018 and the racy, acclaimed 2019.
‘Trocken’ is the dry Riesling style, while ‘Kabinett’ is off-dry and ‘Spatlese’ and ‘Auslese’ are much sweeter. Another pointer, Is that the higher the alcohol, the more likely the wine is to be drier in style.

Fritz Haag
Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Auslese 2019
About this Item
Fritz Haag is one of the Mosel's aristocratic estates, at Brauneberg, whose sun-trap slopes – the Brauneberger Juffer and its Sonnenuhr heart – were priced above all others on the river in the nineteenth century. Oliver Haag makes Rieslings of crystalline purity here. 2019 was a great, racy Mosel vintage. Stephan Reinhardt from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave it a rating of 96, Bruce Sanderson from Wine Spectator gave it 94, and Jancis Robinson gave it 17.5+ out of 20.
Provenance
The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

Critics Ratings
"The 2019 Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Auslese is coolish, precise and fresh on the stony and herbal nose with reductive and iodine notes. Lush and round on the palate, this is a highly refined and absolutely delicious Auslese with fine raisin aromas. It is weightless yet intense and so sensual, all balanced by highly delicate and mineral acidity. Very stimulating. A fantastic Auslese, most likely the best I have tasted from this vineyard." - Stephan Reinhardt, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 96/100 (Aug 2020)
"There's a softness to this auslese, perhaps due to its lush texture, yet also a vibrant structure that defines the peach, mango and floral aromas and flavors. A savory, bouillon note adds detail on the lingering aftertaste." - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 94/100 (Nov 2021)
"Racy, vibrant nose with the acidity really obvious and some chewiness but it's SO backward. A certain grainy texture. Lots of pure sweetness." - Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5+/20 (Jul 2020)
