Allen Jones, born in Southampton in 1937, is a British artist whose practice encompasses painting, sculpture and printmaking, with the female figure recurring throughout his work. He studied at Hornsey College of Art in London from 1955 to 1959, he later continued his studies at the Royal College of Art. It was during this period that he became part of a generation of young British artists that included David Hockney, Peter Phillips and R.B. Kitaj, who would become closely associated with the emergence of British Pop Art.

Jones first gained attention in the 1960s for works that combined popular imagery with an overtly erotic sensibility. The female figure remained central to his practice, while his approach evolved to encompass more stylised and theatrical compositions, drawing on imagery associated with fashion, dance and cabaret.

Over the course of his career, Jones has exhibited extensively in Britain and internationally. His solo exhibitions include presentations at the Royal Academy of Arts, London; Kunsthalle Tübingen, Germany; Kunsthalle Villa Kobe, Halle/Saale; Kunsthaus Hannover; and Skulpturen-Garten der Stadt Wien, Vienna. He was awarded the Prix des Jeunes Artistes at the Paris Biennale in 1963 and was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in 1986. His work is represented in numerous public and private collections internationally.
