Nomvula Millicent Hoko is a Johannesburg-based visual artist, fine art printmaker and educator. She was introduced to visual arts during high school, and went on to study printmaking and painting at Walter Sisulu University. Her practice, which she describes as ongoing visual research and storytelling, explores identity, transformation, spirituality and the histories people carry, with the layered nature of printmaking serving as a language of memory and endurance. These themes were central to her solo exhibition Woman in Process, which explored womanhood and personal growth. In 2024 she received the Best Visual Artist: 2D award at the Eastern Cape Provincial Arts, Culture and Heritage Awards. Hoko is also the founder of Canvasity, through which she offers mentorship, curation, workshops and arts administration to emerging artists.
