Born in Luanshya, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) in 1939, Edwine Simon moved to South Africa as a young child. She studied Fine Art at the University of Cape Town before continuing her education abroad, earning a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at the University of London through a scholarship. A committed educator as well as an artist, she later served as vice-principal of the Ruth Prowse School of Fine Art and Design. Simon built a strong reputation through nine solo shows and many group exhibitions, contributing significantly to South Africa’s cultural and artistic landscape.
