Moreau Naudet

Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons 2008

Burgundy International - White
About the Session

A fine selection of white Burgundy, spanning the full range of the region's great Chardonnay appellations - from the flinty, mineral wines of Chablis through to the richer, more textured expressions of the Côte de Beaune. Highlights include Grand Cru bottlings from Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, alongside benchmark Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet from names such as Roulot, Coche-Bizouard and Etienne Sauzet. Producers represented range from grower-estates to celebrated négociant houses, offering collectors an excellent cross-section of what white Burgundy does best.

About this Item

Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons 2008
3 (1 x 3) 750ml
Domaine Moreau-Naudet is a respected Chablis estate long led by the late Stéphane Moreau-Naudet and now by his widow Virginie, prizing extended lees ageing and a low-intervention hand for age-worthy, mineral Chablis. Vaillons is one of the finest of the left-bank Premier Crus. 2008 was a cool, classic Chablis vintage of vivid tension and minerality. Jancis Robinson MW gave it 16.5 out of 20, and Allen Meadows from Burghound.com gave it a rating of 91.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"Explosive green fruits. Very good attack and really gets the juices going. Already this would make a great aperitif though presumably it will develop more subtlety." - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Jan 2010)

"A lemony, cool and fresh nose of tidal pool, floral notes and spice hints that continue onto the intense, vibrant and chiseled flavors that possess a real sense of tension on the driving finish. This is a wine of contrasts that manages to remain harmonious as the mid-palate is opulent yet there is excellent precision." - Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 91/100 (Oct 2011)
