Senorio de San Vicente

Rioja 2005

Spain
About the Session

Rioja anchors the Spanish session with a depth and breadth that rewards both traditionalists and modern-style enthusiasts. La Rioja Alta is the most extensively represented producer, with Gran Reserva 904 spanning multiple vintages and formats, alongside the classic Reservas - Viña Ardanza, Viña Alberdi, and Viña Arana. Beyond Rioja, Sierra Cantabria delivers some of the most sought-after names in the sale. Their single-vineyard Amancio across 2002 and 2007, the Finca El Bosque, and the Colección Privada 2003 represent the very top of the Rioja hierarchy.

About this Item

Rioja 2005
4 (1 x 4) 750ml
Señorío de San Vicente was the first single-vineyard wine of the modern Rioja era, launched with the 1991 vintage by Guillermo Eguren using the Finca La Canoca vineyard - 18 hectares of 100% Tempranillo Peludo, a rare and nearly extinct local clone of Tempranillo, on calcareous clay soils at the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The estate's philosophy is one vineyard, one cellar, one wine, aged for 20 months in predominantly new French oak. The 2005 was a warm and generous Rioja vintage. Josh Raynolds from Vinous gave it a rating of 93.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

Critics Ratings

“(100% tempranillo peludo) Bright ruby. Intensely perfumed bouquet of red berries, cherry, Asian spices and fresh flowers. Juicy raspberry and candied cherry flavors stain the palate and are given bite by a late note of licorice. Nothing heavy about this, but the fruit is impressively potent and carries through a strikingly long, seductively spicy finish.” - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 93/100 (Sep 2008)
