About this Item

Collection 2019
2 (1 x 2) 750ml
The 2019 vintage allowed David and Nadia Sadie to draw on the full intensity of their Paardeberg and Swartland old vine Chenin sources, a season that married natural concentration with freshness and precision, and the Collection brings together the two individual 2019 bottlings, the Plat'bos and the estate Chenin Blanc, representing a survey of the Sadies' work at the height of the drought cycle's final productive season.

Critics Ratings

David & Nadia Plat'bos Chenin Blanc 2019
'David & Nadia Sadie are now part of an elite group of South African Chenin Blanc producers, making world-class wines on a consistent basis. This is my favourite of their trio of single vineyard wines in 2019, sourced from a 3.9-hectare site on granite soils on the Paardeberg. Tight, taut and floral, with comparatively low alcohol, mouth-watering freshness, precision and acidity, notes of fennel, apple and gunflint and a lingering finish. A Cape Grand Cru. 2021-32' - Tim Atkin SA Special Report 2020, 98/100

'David and Nadia Sadie studied together before getting married in 2009, quickly becoming leading lights in Swartland. Plat'bos, part of their single-vineyard range, is from a 1981-planted site. This vintage shows lime, white peach, dried herbs and talcum powder on the nose, while the palate has extraordinary concentration matched by exhilarating acidity.' - Christian Eedes, Decanter.com, 97/100 (Feb 2021)

'Vibrant, exhilarating 2019 vibrates in its zingy acidity, higher than these siblings. Taut yet textured, with kumquat & nectarine succulence on a bed of lees richness. So well delineated, precise & assured. Same hands-off winemaking as peers. 12.5% alcohol.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2021, 5* (97/100)

'From a vineyard on Paardebosch planted in 1987 on granite. An exquisite nose with notes of flowers, dried herbs before lime, lemon and white peach. The palate, meanwhile, is crystalline - wonderfully pure and focused with great energy and length. Hits the target with pinpoint accuracy. Alcohol: 12.5%' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 98/100 (Aug 2020)

'The nose demonstrates the honey spectrum of Chenin Blanc, enlivened by the high tones so often associated with granite. This may not have that much alcohol but it has masses of extract and light chewiness. Very serious wine. Really burrows into the upper cavities of the palate. Really gets the appetite going; would make a sophisticated aperitif. Excellent acidity. This wine will surely have a long life.' - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17+/20 (Aug 2020)

David & Nadia Chenin Blanc 2019
"It tastes magnificent. Its cool microclimate shows on the nose with brilliantly defined scents of honeysuckle, lanolin, conference pear and white peach that unfold and gain even more complexity the following day. The palate is beautifully balanced. There is real complexity that derives not from obvious flavours, rather its wonderful waxy texture and salinity that electrifies the finish. One of the best Chenin Blancs that I have tasted in a long time." - Neal Martin, Vinous, 93/100 (Dec 2020)

"A benchmark Swartland Chenin of genuine class. The Eikelaan fruit is exceptional and David Sadie knows precisely what to do with it." - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 94/100 (Sep 2020)
