About this Item
Real Companhia Velha (Royal Oporto Wine Company) was founded in 1756 under a Royal Charter from the Marquis of Pombal to regulate the Port wine trade, making it one of the oldest Port houses in existence. Based in Vila Nova de Gaia, the company owns the Quinta de Cidrô in the Rio Torto valley in the Douro Superior, as well as vineyards in the Cima Corgo. Its Vinho do Porto range is produced from select Douro Valley parcels, drawing on the house’s centuries-long experience with the valley’s traditional cultivars. The Real Companhia Velha Vinho do Porto 1967 is a rare, 55+ year-old single-vintage Port from a year that was generally considered very fine in the Douro.
At this great age, the wine will have developed deep amber tawny colour and extraordinary complexity: concentrated aromas of dried figs, roasted walnuts, orange peel, candied citrus, caramel, and rancio, with a silky, mellow palate and a finish of exceptional length.
