About this Item

Vintage Port 2011
4 (1 x 4) 750ml
The 2011 Douro vintage stands as the most universally acclaimed Vintage Port declaration in at least fifty years, a season of perfectly timed rains, exceptional natural concentration and structural complexity that earned Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year in 2014 and produced wines across the valley now spoken of alongside the great classics of 1966, 1977 and 1994. Dow's 2011 Vintage Port was named Wine Spectator's Wine of the Year by Kim Marcus, earning 99 points, and was awarded 96 points by James Suckling at JamesSuckling.com.

Dow's is one of the great historic houses of Vintage Port, established in 1798 and today part of the Symington Family Estates. Its hallmark style, drier, more austere and more structured than most Douro houses, is drawn primarily from the outstanding Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira in the Douro Superior, producing wines of exceptional longevity, dark mineral complexity and the firm, grippy tannins that have always defined Dow's as Port for collectors who measure quality in decades.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"Powerful, refined and luscious, with a surplus of dark plum, kirsch and cassis flavours that are unctuous and long. Shows plenty of grip, presenting a long, full finish filled with Asian spice and raspberry tart accents. Rich and chocolaty. One for the ages. Best from 2030 through 2060." – Kim Marcus, Wine Spectator, 99/100 (Feb 2014)

"The vintage's highest-scoring Port, a monument to quality and the Douro's modernisation. Not overly sweet, the 2011 Dow's delivers an abundance of grip, the interplay of alcohol and tannins prerequisite to long life." - James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, 96/100 (May 2013)
