About this Item

Paul Sauer 1999
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Kanonkop’s 1999 Paul Sauer is one of the most celebrated vintages of this iconic Bordeaux blend, its 80% Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% each of Cabernet Franc and Merlot vinified traditionally in open fermenters and aged in French oak. The wine earned extraordinary praise for its arresting bouquet of pencil shavings and forest-floor fruits in youthful restraint, with what Platter’s described as quite the most gorgeous soft tannins. At over two decades of age the wine continues to show exceptional vitality.

Critics Ratings

'Legend In its own time, Cape classic in its own right. Bordeaux-style blend from low-yielding 30 year old vines, 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10 % each Cabernet Franc and Merlot, traditionally vinified in open fermenters, ±2 years new French oak. 99 will excite Eurocentric palates too: arresting 'cool' bouquet of pencil shavings, forest-floor fruits in youthful restraint of quite the most gorgeous soft tannins. 3500 cases' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2003, 4.5*

'Amazing bright ruby red colour introduce a nose that holds leafy undertones to astonishingly fresh red fruit and graphite. Feminine, yet not light - typical Bordeaux blend profile and Paul Sauer class. Elegant, lean, classic, bright and moreish' - Higgo Jacobs 2011, 95/100
